Sec. 5 -126 Maintenance and workmanship - Doors, stairs, <br />ramps, passages, signs and all other components of means of <br />egress shall be of substantial, reliable construction and <br />shall be built or installed in a workmanship manner. Any <br />device or alarm installed to restrict improper use of means <br />of egress shall be so designed and installed that it <br />cannot, even in case of failure, impede or prevent <br />emergency use of such means of egress. All stairs, <br />handrails, and guardrails shall be properly maintained. <br />Sec. 5 -316 Guards and handrails - for stairs or stair <br />landings and balconies shall be located along the edge of <br />open sides and shall have guards to prevent falls from aver <br />the open sides and shall be properly maintained. <br />Sec. 13 -34 Hazardous areas - any area used for general <br />storage, boiler or furnace rooms, fuel storage, janitor <br />closets, maintenance shops, including woodworking and <br />painting areas, and kitchens, shall be separated from other <br />parts of building by construction having a fire resistance <br />rating of not less than one hour and all openings shall be <br />protected with self - closing fire doors. <br />If you have any questions in regards to this matter, do not hesitate <br />to call our office at 484 -2177. <br />ITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />n Palacio <br />Fire Marshall <br />Page 50 <br />
