PLACES OF BUSINESS <br />Business buildings are those used for the transaction of business, <br />for the keeping of accounts, records and similar purposes. Included <br />in this occupancy group are doctor offices, dentist offices, city <br />hall, and general offices. Also, included in this occupancy would be <br />portions of the same area of the building or structure that would be <br />properly classified and conform to fundamental principles stated in <br />the Code and to any specific provisions that are applicable by the <br />Code. <br />Sec. 13 -2 Exits - All exit facilities shall be in <br />accordance with Chapter 5. <br />Sec. 5 -112 Definitions - A means of egress is a continuous <br />and unobstructed way of exit travel from any point in a <br />building to a public way and to provide a protected way of <br />travel to the exit discharge. <br />Sec. 5 -114 Protection enclosures of exits - When an exit <br />is required to be protected by a separation, other parts of <br />the building shall be the minimum of one hour construction <br />or greater. Openings within the assembly shall have <br />self- closing doors or other openings shall be protected <br />within the assembly the minimum of one hour. No exit <br />enclosure shall be used for any purpose such as piping for <br />flammable liquids or gases or fcr flammable materials which <br />could interfere with exit travel. <br />Sec. 5 -117 Arrangements of exits - When more than one exit <br />is required from any story, at least two of the exits shall <br />be remote from each other and so arranged and constructed <br />as to minimize any passibility that both may be blocked by <br />any one fire or other emergency conditions. <br />Sec. 5 -120 Access to exits - Exits shall be so located and <br />exit access shall be so arranged that exits are readily <br />accessible at all times. <br />Sec. 5 -10 Illumination of means of exits - Every public <br />space, hallway, stairway, and other means of egress shall <br />be illuminated. <br />Sec. 5 -11 Exit markings - Access to exits shall be marked <br />by readily visible signs. Size of sign - each sign in <br />plainly legible letters not less than 6" high with the <br />strokes of letters not less than 3/4 ". <br />Page 49 <br />
