December 13, 1993
TO: Joel Hanson, City Administer
FROM= Gary Meis
2992 Vanderbie
Little Canada
Minnesota Trappers Association
Educate • Conserve • Ensure Trapping
Gary Meis
President
2992 Vanderbie Rd. Phone
Little Canada, MN 55117 (612) 490 -1015
Dear Mr. Hanson, as a resident of Little Canada I would like
to express my ideas and opinions on the potential issuance of
deer harvest permits in the city of Little Canada.
I would like to attend the meeting on December 16. however I
will be at work on the 3 -11 P.M. shift. Please accept this
letter in place of my attendance.
It is this residents opinion that any permits being issued
should be given to Little Canada citizens first. For the
most part we know the land owners and have their trust and
know their personalities. We are also the tax payers of
Little Canada and I feel we should be given first opportunity
to enjoy the hunt over a non tax paying resident.
I also feel that for public relation protection each
applicant should be screened and have to comply with some
form of proof that they know how to hunt deer and are
proficient with the how and arrow. The best of equipment
coupled with experience should be of the highest priority.
I myself have not missed a bow hunting season since 1969 and
have taken 27 deer with the bow and arrow.
If you are looking for a fair judge to determine who is
capable and who is not I would suggest you contact John
Larsen the owner of Bawana Archery here in Little Canada.
John is one of the greatest authorities on archery hunting in
the United States and for the good of the sport and public
relations I know he would help.
Don't think for one moment that this hunt wont be monitored
by the animal rights activists. I also feel that other
communities will be using this hunt as a prototype for their
depredation problems. Lets work together to make this a safe
and enjoyable hunt to be enjoyed by the hunter and to help
eliminate Little Canadas deer problem. My family will attest
to the deer problem as we have had several near car -deer
confrontations.
In closing, please accept this letter as an application to
participate in the hunt. I would be happy to purchase a deer
management permit.
Sincerely yours,
Gary Meis 490 -1015
Page 13
