515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
December 16, 1993
TO: Mayor Hanson
Members of City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
RE: 1994 Audit Services
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
The City has received a proposal from Olson, Thielen and
Company, Ltd. to prepare our 1993 annual financial
statements and related reports for a maximum price of
$19,000. For any work beyond the scope of the audit, an
hourly charge of $35.00 will be made.
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
We've also had considerable discussions with our present
auditors, Tautges and Redpath Company, Ltd., regarding
their fees for 1994. As you know, we have spent
significant sums in this area in the past. By completing
more work in -house (work which we should be doing to have a
complete accounting system) I have negotiated the 1994 rate
with them consisting of hourly charges up to the maximum
amount not to exceed $21,000 with the understanding that
the City will take a greater responsibility in preparing
various records for their review.
While the Tautges and Redpath quote is somewhat higher than
that of Olson, Thielen, it is my recommendation that we
retain Tautges and Redpath for our 1993 audit based on the
fact that I feel the benefits gained by having them work
with our accounting clerk on her first city audit where she
has been involved in the record preparation will provide
long term benefits to the City that are unmeasurable at
this point in time. The experience and knowledge Julie
Manville will gain by this process should in fact save us
money into the future.
Page 14
