MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />NOVEMBER 9, 1993 <br />fencing are allowed to become overgrown. <br />Keis asked if vehicle parking needed to be screened. <br />The Planner replied that construction equipment was <br />required to be screened. <br />Drabik asked if storage could occur in the front of a <br />building. <br />The Planner replied that storage cannot occur forward <br />of the building. <br />Knudsen asked about screening existing storage versus <br />new storage. <br />Carson pointed out that outdoor storage is required to <br />be screened, and existing outdoor storage is not exempt <br />from this requirement. <br />The City Planner reported that should the ordinance be <br />amended to require screening of outdoor storage via <br />chain -link fencing, the Frattalone wood fence would <br />become non - conforming. Frattalone would be allowed to <br />maintain this fencing, however, if it were knocked <br />down, it would have to be replaced with chain -link. <br />Those properties with no screening of outdoor storage, <br />could be required to provide this screening. <br />Carson asked if the City wanted to allow a variety of <br />wood fencing, suggesting that the ordinance be amended <br />to make chain -link with slats the only screening <br />material allowed. <br />Knudsen felt that the type of fencing material required <br />for screening was not the issue, but that enforcement <br />of the ordinance was the problem. <br />Carson felt that the material needed to be defined <br />before the City could go out and tell the property <br />owners what is required. <br />The City Planner felt that chain -link would endure poor <br />maintenance better than a wood fence. <br />Drabik suggested that chain -link was more economical, <br />therefore, property owners may prefer it. However, <br />Drabik wanted to give property owners the option of <br />wood or chain -link. <br />DeLonais asked about height requirement. <br />Th City Planner replied that in the I -1 District a <br />Page 5 <br />
