515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 7664029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
w ww.ci.little- canada.mn.us
MAYOR
13i11 13lesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Biesener & Members of City Council
FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: September 3, 2013
RE: MNDot Temporary Easement for Repair
There is a slope failure along 35E southbound on the hill that abuts the Public Works
garage. It started after the Unweave the Weave project and MNDot has monitored it for
the past few years and now believes it knows the correct repair to make to shore it up.
In order to access the area, MNDot is requesting a temporary easement over the backyard
of the Public Works garage. They are proposing to remove a section of the fence in the
back corner and install a gate. They would move equipment and materials through the
Public Works yard. When the work is complete they would remove the gate and put the
fence back in place along with restoring the entire area to its original condition.
The project is being let in March 2014 and the work will take place during the 2014
construction season. There is no need for a permanent easement so there should be no
issues with selling the property once the new Public Works garage is completed.
Staff recommends approving the temporary permit to construct for MNDot for the slope
repair work scheduled to take place in 2014.
