recommended actions <br />Goal 7 <br />IMPLEMENT THE <br />WATERSHED <br />NATURAL RESOURCES <br />PLAN <br />PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAMS <br />❑ The Watershed Natural Resources Board should work with cit- <br />ies, the Minnesota DNR, the Watershed District, Willow Lake <br />Preserve staff and Local school districts to link K -12 environ- <br />mental education programs and community education programs <br />to the watershed and its resources; and involve students in water- <br />shed monitoring, field work, research and restoration activities. <br />NATURAL RESOURCES ELEMENTS IN CITY <br />COMPREHENSIVE PLANS <br />❑ The Natural Resources Board should work with cities in the wa- <br />tershed, the Watershed District and resource agencies to consider <br />the need for Natural Resources elements in city comprehensive <br />plans, and to assist cities in the development of the elements and <br />integration of natural resources components in comprehensive <br />planning activities. <br />WATERSHED NATURAL RESOURCES BOARD <br />❑ The Phalen Watershed Project Steering Committee should estab- <br />lish an ongoing Watershed Natural Resources Board to ensure <br />implementation of the Watershed Plan. The Board should be <br />provided support staff and resources to successfully carry out its <br />mission. <br />The Board should work with local governments, businesses, pri- <br />vate corporations and organizations, citizens, and natural resources <br />agencies to identify and consider natural resources issues in the <br />watershed and recommend actions or solutions. They should ini- <br />tiate and fund demonstration projects, coordinate information and <br />education for citizens and local officials on natural resources in <br />the watershed, and provide other advise and assistance as needed <br />to meet the natural resources goals identified in the Watershed <br />Plan. <br />33 <br />PHALEN CHAIN OF LAKES WATERSHED PROIECT <br />Page 56 <br />
