515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
MA YOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: April 22, 1994
RE: Noel Drive Storm Drainage Improvements
(Our Project ¢93-15)
Attached is a letter from the City Engineer regarding storm
drainage improvements for Noel Drive. These improvements are to
be constructed over the culvert for County Ditch #16. These
improvements have been requested by the Watershed District and
are our responsibility due to a verbal agreement with the
Watershed whereby they corrected all erosion problems along the
County Ditch in return for our construction of the storm drainage
facilities. These improvements are needed to minimize erosion in
the County Ditch.
In discussing this project with the City Engineer, we proposed to
have a simple specification sheet put together and obtain
competitive quotations from area contractors. (Because the
amount is under $25,000, formal bids are not needed.) We would
hope that this process will result in a cost for the project
below the Engineer's estimate. The manner of construction being
proposed would also allow for the ultimate reconstruction of Noel
Drive some time in the future whereby this work will not have to
be re -done as a result of that process.
Based on this information, it is the recommendation of staff that
the Council authorize us to proceed with these improvements as
proposed. The source of funding for this work would be our MSA
Account #403.
JRH:kpv
Enclosure
cc: Dave Harris, Public Works Superintendent
Mike Lynch, City Engineer
Page 137
