MINUTES
City Council
Oct. 14, 1987
Minutes
(Cont.)
Public
Hearing
Centerville
Road Park
Proposal
Agenda
Item No. 5
•
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Blesener, LaValle, Fahey, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 18, Page 511.
Mrs. Scalze reported that page 7, last paragraph of the October 7, 1987
Special Council Meeting minutes should be amended to reflect that
park dedication fees would be credited to the Park Acquisition Fund,
rather than park permit fees. The last sentence in that paragraph
should be amended changing "park permit fees" to "park charges" as well.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 87 -10 -484 - APPROVING THE
MINUTES OF THE OCIORFR 7 1987 SPECIAL
COUNCIL MEETING AS AMENDED
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mrs. Scalze.
Ayes (5) Blesener, Scalze, Fahey, Collova, LaValle.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 18, Page 511.
Mayor Fahey opened the public hearing to consider a proposal for the
City to purchase up to 33.88 acres of property in the Centerville Road
area immediately north of the Montreal Courts apartment complex for
park and recreation purposes.
Fahey pointed out that two years ago, based on the recommendation of
the Park Commission, the City considered the purchase of 16 acres of
property in this same area for recreational use.
Fahey pointed out that the proposal has come up again with the Park
Commission and the Recreation Association recommending in favor of
the purchase. Fahey reported that the Recreation Association will
address the Council on this matter, as will Bill Sanders, representing
the Park Commission, and Bob Voto, the City's Auditor, on the issue
of the City's financial capability to make such a purchase. After
that point, the hearing will be opened to comments from the public.
Fahey also pointed out the results of a Metro land study which indicated
that Little Canada has 63 acres of land in recreational use, including
the Water Works property, compared with much greater amounts for
surrounding cities. For example, Roseville has 729 acres of land
in recreational use, Vadnais Heights has 650 acres, Shoreview has 1,45110
acres, North Oaks has 328 acres, Arden Hills has 423 acres.
Page -2-
Page 222
