MINUTES
City Council
Oct. 14, 1987
Costa felt the adjacent property owners deserved some protection.
Fahey noted that there is buffering shown on the concept plans,
but noted that it would not be feasible to put a parking lot in
the center of the property. Fahey stated that the City would want
to develop the area in a first -class manner which everyone could
be proud of.
Jim Morelan, Park and Recreation Director, stated that he agreed
with everything in the Recreation Association's April, 1987 letter.
In rebuttle to the unsigned letter, Morelan stated that there are
non - resident ballplayers on leagues using fields in the City, but
this is true of every community. Morelan pointed out that there
are 24 Little Canada children playing football in Roseville's
program.
Morelan also reported that he and the Recreation Association have
looked for other available land in the City, and there is none.
The Centerville Road property appears to be the only feasible choice.
Fahey asked those present to raise their hands if they were in favor
of the proposal. Numerous hands were raised. Fahey asked for those
opposed to the proposal. There were none.
There was no one else present wishing to address the Council on this
matter.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 87 -10 -485 - CLOSING THE
r PUBLIC HFAEI.NG ON THE CENTERVILLE ROAD
*
PARK SAL
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Blesener, LaValle, Scalze, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 18, Page 512.
Fahey pointed out that the Council has heard the arguments for and
against the proposal. The Auditor has also indicated that the
purchase of the property is financially feasible.
Fahey stated that he supported the City's authorizing the City
Attorney to pursue option agreements on the Centerville Road area
property. Fahey stated that he understood the arguments raised
by Mr. Butler regarding increasing the City's tax base, however,
pointed out that under those arguments no cities would ever acquire
park property.
Page -9-
Page 229
