Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
In the proposed 1995 budget document, we provided for an intern
for ten weeks in 1994 and nine months in 1995 at a wage of $8.50
per hour. At this point in time I feel an intern from a master's
program in public administration is a preferable option in that
the person hired could assist with some administrative work in
addition to code enforcement activities. Based on the checking I
have done, the $8.50 per hour wage is right in the ballpark for
comparable positions.
If we are to have ten weeks of activity in 1994, we would need to
commence the hiring process at once. It should be noted that
code enforcement requests for service have remained fairly
constant over the course of the summer. Just today, I had two
separate calls asking for a more proactive approach in this
regard.
Therefore, I would recommend the hiring of an intern for this
position at $8.50 per hour. If I can make arrangements for an
intern with one of the educational institutions without
advertising, I would prefer that approach. If I cannot find a
candidate I am comfortable with through this method, then I would
recommend we advertise the position.
If you have any questions, please let me know prior to
Wednesday's meeting.
Page 50
