515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: December 16, 1994
RE: Dianna Lane Retaining Wall
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Attached with this memo are the following documents:
* A memo from the City Engineer's office dated December
16, 1994. This memo provides some additional
information regarding the timber wall option. It also
indicates that they have a slight preference for the
construction of the retaining wall verses a one -to -one
slope.
* A memo from Bill Sanders dated December 7, 1994
discussing plantings for a one -to -one slope. I
confirmed with Bill Sanders that he is recommending the
one -to -one slope over the retaining wall and that he
feels it can be a situation which results in low
maintenance while being aesthetically pleasing. The
key consideration with the plantings of vegetation on
the slope will be the cost which is dependent on the
type of plantings proposed. Angela Popenhagen with the
City Engineer's office indicated that she feels the
range of cost estimates initially provided are adequate
to address the planting program.
* A memo from Dave Harris dated December 13, 1994 dealing
with the County's maintenance of the B2 right -of -way.
As it indicates, the County does no maintenance of this
area unless there is a severe erosion problem. They
indicated that they have not been aware of a severe
erosion problem along Co. Rd. B2.
* A memo from Jerry Bourdon dated November 4, 1994 which
initially addressed the retaining wall issue. This is
being included for reference purposes.
* A memo dated December 4, 1994 from the City
Administrator to the residents of the Dianna Lane
neighborhood inviting them to Wednesday's meeting and
Page 129
