The mailing list is also included with this memo. * Copies of photographs from the existing retaining wall along Co. Rd. C in Maplewood. Based on this information, the Public Works Superintendent and I would recommend the City proceed with the removal of the existing walls and installation of a one -to -one slope within the City's right -of -way. We favor this option as it provides the following advantages: * Less construction costs to the City for installation. * Aesthetics are perceived to be superior in that chain link fence would be necessary due to the height of the wall if that option were pursued. * On -going City maintenance should be less in that plantings should be maintenance free. If the retaining wall option were proposed, some maintenance activities may be necessary on the terraced areas depending on the plantings utilized. We do recognize that some slope maintenance may be necessary in cases of severe erosion although we feel they may be minimal given the County's experience on Co. Rd. B2 and assuming initial plantings take root properly. At Wednesday's meeting, input from the neighborhood should be taken as to their preference for the improvement. Angela Popenhagen will be present to answer questions based on her review. Please keep in mind that we have not conducted a full blown design analysis. Rather, we have attempted to generate sufficient information to assist you in making a decision. The Council then needs to direct us as to the course of action preferred.
