LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (612) 484 -2177 / Fax: 484 -4538
MEMO
JIM MORELAN, Director
JACK FITZGERALD, Asst. Director
MICHELLE DeBACE, Program Coordinator
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: December 21, 1994
RE: Little Canada Recreation Association Support
All too often, things that have been in existence for a long
period of time tend to get taken for granted or otherwise get
overlooked by those who benefit from their existence. This is
certainly not the case from my perspective in regards to the
LCRA. I see and come in contact daily with the support that they
give to the City Parks and Recreation Department's youth programs
and to the general population of our children.
I feel it is important to note that the LCRA founded and
conducted out City's youth recreation programs for several years
before we as a City became involved. They continue to support
this endeavor in many ways, and I have listed below several of
them from 1994. Also listed is the amount of money that was
expended for that cause.
1. Fee Subsidy and Scholarships - $8,800
Through this donation, the City was able to reduce the
actual fee of any program costing over $20 per child by
an average of approximately 20 %. Scholarship money was
also made available to assure that no child who wanted
to participate in any of the City Parks and Recreation
activities would be denied because of financial
reasons. By having them provide this scholarship
money, it holds down overall fees that otherwise would
have to be raised to compensate for scholarships.
2. Coaches Shirts - $1,300
Shirts that are given to coaches of summer youth sports
teams. These serve to identify our youth coaches on
the field, and help to instill pride and respect for
the programs that they are volunteering countless hours
of their time for.
3. Coaches Jackets - $900
Given to volunteer coaches of the fall and winter
Page 223
