MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JANUARY 13, 1994
The Commission discussed the height of the signage, and
felt that the pylons on the site should meet Code
requirements. If a 30 foot height is allowed, the
pylon should be moved 15 feet further east.
Chazin reported that he would be willing to move the
sign as far east as possible without going into the
parking lot. Chazin reported that he was willing to
work with the City Planner on the best solution.
Chazin pointed out that The Market Place Shopping
Center is a 90,000 square foot shopping center, which
is three times the size of the average strip mall.
Garske recommended approval of a variance to allow the
construction of one large pylon sign at The Market
Place Shopping Center similar to the option presented
by Team Properties due to the fact that the shopping
center was constructed under unusual circumstances in
that the property is oddly shaped, the building is
perpendicular to the property, and the frontage along
Rice Street is inadequate for the size of the building
subject to the maximum area of the sign being limited
to 400 square feet in size, subject to the pylon being
no more than 30 feet in height, and subject to removal
of the two existing pylons from the site.
Motion seconded by Carson.
Motion carried 5 - 1. Keis voted against.
SHORELAND The Commission reviewed the Shoreland Ordinance as
ORDINANCE presented by the City Planner. The Planner pointed out
that the Ordinance is being updated to include
recommendations for updating from the DNR.
Schletty recommended adoption of the Shoreland
Ordinance revision as presented by the City Planner.
Motion seconded by Keis.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
SCREENING The Commission reviewed the proposed revision to the
ORDINANCE Screening Ordinance which adds slatted chain -line
fencing as an acceptable screening material in the
Industrial District.
Carson recommended adoption of the Screening Ordinance
revision as presented.
Motion seconded by Schletty.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
Page 6
