Hanson <br />Attached are two agreements from the Metropolitan Transmit <br />Commission. They are seeking execution of these agreements <br />from all of the cities within their authority. <br />One of the agreements deals with capital improvement <br />projects relative to bus stop signage. The goal of this <br />program is to get 90% of the bus stops properly signed. <br />This agreement asks the cities to replace existing MTC <br />signs with new ones, put up new signs where none previously <br />existed, and in some cases install information holders. <br />The MTC will be reimbursing the City for its costs <br />associated with the installation of these signs utilizing <br />ISTEA funds. (This is a federal transportation grant <br />program.) Reimbursement rates will be the same for all <br />jurisdictions based on time expended. From a survey MTC <br />has conducted in all jurisdictions, they are estimating 40 <br />to 50 locations in Little Canada will be signed. <br />The other agreement relates to maintenance issues regarding <br />bus service, bus zones, and bus stop signs. This agreement <br />results from a law suit against the City of Brooklyn Center <br />and the MTC regarding location of bus stop signs and who is <br />responsible for their placement and continued maintenance. <br />This agreement assigns liability to MTC for selecting <br />locations of bus stops and signage. (Assignment of bus <br />stop locations is a responsibility of the MTC pursuant to <br />State Statute.) The cities are responsible for maintenance <br />costs associated with the bus stops including signage. MTC <br />provides us with the transit signs, but must place them and <br />maintain them. (The agreement previously discussed is <br />reimbursing us for all one time costs in establishing these <br />Page 109 <br />
