515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council
FROM: Dave Harris, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: January 6, 1994
RE: Purchase of Used Dump Truck and Plow
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
On January 5, 1994, the City of Little Canada was
successful in bidding on the used plow truck from the City
of Roseville in the amount of $10,050. This is $15,000
below what was in our budget. We picked the truck up the
afternoon of the 5th, brought it down to the shop, and
after some minor repairs, the truck was put into service.
We were able to utilize it for the snowfall that evening.
After using it we found that it more than exceeded our
expectations.
Since we decided to bid on the truck, I did some
preliminary checking for wing installation and body work.
Putting a wing plow on the truck would cost approximately
$6,000 to $7,000. It could possibly be less depending on
the valve banks that are installed on the inside of the
truck for the hydraulic system. Painting and minor body
work is estimated at approximately $2,000 since the truck
is in very good shape with the exception of a minor crack
in one of the fiberglass fenders. The tires on the truck
will be exchanged with the tires on the 1980 Ford which
will be put in the newspaper for the purpose of selling
it. I am estimating $5,000 to $6,000 as the sale price of
the 1980 Ford truck.
At this time, I would like to request authorization from
the Council to call for quotes to purchase a wing plow to
be mounted on the 1984 dump truck and further investigate
having the truck painted and the body work done in early
spring. If you have any questions regarding this matter,
please let me know.
DH:kv
Page 86
