Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
After our last council meeting, I forwarded our
applications for bow and arrow hunting permits to the
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. I also
requested that they grant permission to allow the taking of
deer in the early part of 1994.
On Thursday, January 6, I talked to Mr. John Parker with
the DNR to ask the status of our request. He had indicated
that some review was done of the applicants we had
submitted to them, but more work was still required. He
committed to having answers to us in both areas by Monday,
January 10. Therefore, I will not have any further
information until that time.
I was also contacted by Mr. Jon Witt of the Minnesota Bow
Hunters Association. He expressed interest in having
qualified archers assist in removal of the deer. He
indicated that it was his organization that handled the
hunt at Fort Snelling. In talking with Mr. Parker of the
DNR, he confirmed they conducted that hunt and did an
excellent job. Therefore, that may be another option you
want to consider.
Lastly, I was contacted by Linda Hatfield of Friends of
Animals and Their Environment (FATE). She forwarded to me
other information relative to deer issues that dealt with
topics such as repellents, fencing, deer /vehicle
collisions, and the nature of deer living in close
proximity to developed areas. This information is
available at the City offices should you wish to review it
further.
Should you have any comments or questions prior to
Wednesday's meeting, please let me know.
cc: Myers Frattalone
Richard Heinel
JRH /mbg
Page 85
