Mayor & City Council Page 2
March 18, 1994
we should revise the charge to the Venetian Inn utilizing the
same criteria. My rationale for doing so is that the Venetian's
costs of just under $1,900 per year for water service charge do
seem excessive. Also, one could argue that the trailer courts
also receives fire protection benefits from the main. Therefore,
the Venetian's connection should not create any greater benefit.
If we applied the same criteria to the Venetian Inn as utilized
with the trailer parks, the number of SAC units for the basis of
their water service charge would be reduced from 35 to 11. This
would save them $1,278.72 per year.
I also feel that we should revise the water service charge to
entities not connected to the City water system, but which have
water available to a maximum of 3 SAC units subject to the
exceptions just noted. This would reduce the water service
charge made against the car wash at 2600 Rice Street from 12 to 3
saving them $479.52 per year. I would also recommend that they
be rebated the past three quarters of this charge (2nd -4th, 1993)
given the fact that they made this request last summer and I
informed them that if any changes are implemented, I would
attempt to have them made retroactive to the point the issue was
raised. This would result in a rebate to them of $359.64.
Subject to any questions the Council may have, I would recommend
the adoption of the rate increases and schedule adjustments as
stated in this memo.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
r=age 54
