City Council
April 23, 1932
'later
Availability
Charge To
Trailer Courts
on- Agenda
Item ::o. 2
Mrs. Anderson of 3020 Rice Street Trailer Court appeared before the
Council. Mrs. Anderson stated that she does not believe the Council
gave the proper thought to the water availability charge it recently
passed. Mrs. Anderson stated that 3020 :railer Court would have to
pay $1,354 per year for this charge. Mrs. Anderson stated that she
is willing to pay her fair share, but does not think that this is
fair to charge by the home.
Mrs. Anderson pointed out that there is approximately 520 feet of
watermain running through her property and feels the charge should be
based on this.
Mrs. Scalze pointed out that at the last Council meeting when discussing
the Terrace Heights Mobile Home Park the Council felt the current charge
was an excessive charge, but did not change it because It in all probability
would not happen because it would not begin being charged for a year.
At that time the Council talked about one charge for every 75 feet of
road frontage.
Mr. Fahey agreed. Fahey also stated that the charge is not just
for being hooked up, but also for the maintenance that must be done
on the whole system.
Mrs. Anderson stated that she felt vacant lots should pay their share
also.
Mrs. Scalze commented that at the last meeting the Council did not
consider the 3020 Trailer Park which has water available, but is not
hooked up.
Mr. Fahey stated that if the Council changes the charge for the trailer
park it would be a $6.00 charge per every 75 feet, not a $4.50 charge.
The City Clerk stated that the system of charging should be fair to
everyone. The system should charge everyone on the same basis.
Ma;•cr Hanson asked what other cities do in this case. The Clerk replied
that every city is different.
Mayor Hanson commented that the bills for the first quarter have already
gone out.
The Clerk commented that if Mrs. Anderson's wells went out tonight, she
would have water available to her immediately. The Clerk stated that if
the Council changes Mrs. Anderson's charge to be based on front footage,
it should make this change for the whole City. The Clerk stated that
the system of charging cannot be different.
Mr. 5anson commented that the Public ;:oras Superintendent recommended (
either a $9 service charge if charged to only those hooked up, or a
$6 ser:-LLce charge if charged to those hooked up and those with :hater
Page 59
