Scalze.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Scalze, Nardini, Hanson, Forsberg.
Nayes (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 8, Page 165.
Pat Vitale appeared before the Council and asked the Council
what the City is paying Er. Ed Locke. Mr. Fahey replied that :Sr.
Locke currently .receives $1,000 per month for building inspection,
$150 per month for fire inspections, and $115 per month for insurance.
Nr..Vitale asked why the City needs a full -time building inspector.
Mrs. Nardini explained that when ::r. Locke begins working full-time
he will be performing the duties of building inspection, plumbing
znd heating inspections, fire inspections and code enforcement.
Mr. Vitale informed the Council that Mr. Locke recently made a fire
inspection at the Venetian Inn and has required some things which he does
not feel are necessary. ;;r. Locke ordered that a valve be changed,
which cost Mr. Vitale $450. The person who changed the valve for Mr.
Vitale informed him that the old one did the same job as the one Mr.
Locke ordered be installed. Mr. Locke also ordered that the door into
a store room be changed to a fire -rated door and that a gas heater in
a hallway be removed.
The City Clerk commented that in the fire inspection report the laws
covering these items are indicated, The Clerk also commented that
the Uniform Fire Code is retroactive. Therefore, the current _ode
would apply, not the one that was in effect at the installation of
some of these items.
Mr. Vitale commented that his food plant is F ederally inspected, and he
cannot make changes without Federal approval.
Fahey commented that the City pays Mr. Locke to stay up -to -date on
the various codes. Fahey suggested that if :: . Vitale has any differences
with ".r. Locke he should discuss them with him. Also the State Fire
Marshall could be consulted on these differences. Mr. Fahey also commen&
that as long as :: . Vitale was (making an effort to cor -a-- sole of these
things, he is sure Y_. Locke does not expect :he c-.a.;es to be made
oven-' >ht .
Page 61
