Hanson Date: March 4, 1994 From: Joel Hanson, City Administrator To: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council Subject: Deer Permit Update I have been informed by a number of parties that deer have returned to Mr. Frattalone's property. Based on the letter received from Mr. John Parker dated January 12, 1994, I believe we should pursue the issuance of a deer control permit at this time. (A copy of that letter is attached for your review.) This assumes that Dave Cossack will pass proficiency tests conducted by Mr. Parker and observed by Jim Morelan. It is further assumed that there will be only one permitted hunter in the area in question based on the verbal recommendation previously received from DNR officials. Some other steps that may need to be taken to complete this undertaking are as follows: * Agreement from Mr. Heinel (through our permitting form) to allow Dave Cossack to have hunting stations on his property. Identification of other hunters to serve as alternates in case Mr. Cossack is not available or in the event he does not pass the proficiency test. * Establishment of a clear understanding relative to the location of hunting stations, hunting schedules, and notification of law enforcement personnel. Based on these conditions and any others the City Council may deem appropriate, I would like permission to obtain the permit at the time we have a hunter qualified. By doing so, we may save some time by avoiding another discussion at a City Council meeting.
