Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484-4538
MEMORANDUM
DATE: March 3, 1994
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: David Harris
RE: Policy for Posting Street
As you know, spring is again upon us and with it comes the
posting of streets due to the freeze /thaw cycles that occur this
time of year. Streets are posted at certain set limits to
eliminate the unnecessary and damaging loading caused by heavy
vehicles.
With this memo is a set of maps of the streets and how they are
posted in Little Canada. The first map shows how the streets are
posted at this time. The second map is a proposed system of
posting for the City of Little Canada. After much discussion
with Mike Lynch and Harlan Olsen of Bonestroo the following
consensus was reached to recommend to the Council to adopt as a
policy. That all roads which are urban sections be posted at a 5
ton per axle limit.
The urban sections have curb and gutter and a way to channel the
water to a storm sewer system. The rural sections, due to the
fact they are more flat in nature and water is very slow to
drain. A recommendation that those streets be posted at the 3
ton axle limit. Setting forth this policy should help to
alleviate much of the confusion in handling phone calls from
different contractors as to which roads are posted. It will also
extend the life of some of the existing pavements in Little
Canada. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
Page 61
