SEGMENT 1
Description: This is the basic trailway concept. This segment provides a continuous trail
from Co. Rd. C to Demont Avenue. The trail / walk can be divided into four sections as
described below.
SECTION A:
Description: This trail section is proposed to be located along the westerly side of Lake
Shore Avenue between Co. Rd. C and Australian Avenue. A suggested location is to locate
the trail one foot inside the right -of -way. This would place the trail behind the power poles
and provide a 7 to 9 foot boulevard for snow storage, street signage and separation of the
pedestrians from the vehicular traffic.
Significant issues: Trail will be located in existing yards. Some loss of existing trees will
occur.
Advantages: Provides separation of pedestrians and vehicles. Provides boulevard for snow
storage.
Disadvantages: Changes the nature of the existing yards.
SECTION B:
Description: This section consists of using the existing road bed of Australian Avenue. No
new construction is proposed except perhaps signing.
Significant issues: None apparent.
Advantages: No cost.
Disadvantages: No separation of pedestrians and vehicles but Australian is a dead -end low
volume vehicular road and therefore this disadvantage is minimal.
SECTION C:
Description: This section connects Australian to Old Co. Rd. C. It is located within an
existing easement as generally shown on the sketch. We believe there is enough room to
provide flexibility of location to accommodate the trail with minimal impacts upon the
abutting properties.
Significant issues: None apparent. Must work with abutting property owners to minimize
impacts but the work appears feasible with minimal impacts.
Advantages: Provides trail link with minimal impacts to property and trees.
Disadvantages: None unless there is opposition from abutting property owners.
Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik & Assoc., Inc.
