SECTION D:
Description: This section is located along the westerly side of Jackson Street. We suggest
placing the trail along the existing foot path between stations 5 +50 and 10 +50
(approximately between East Rose Place and Lake Street). As such the trail would be
above the road grade several feet and separated from the road with a significant boulevard.
Significant issues: May need a permit from C P Rail. Perhaps the trees and brush between
the trail and the road should be removed to make the trail visible from the road for security
reasons.
Advantages: Good separation of pedestrians and vehicles. Room for snow storage.
Minimizes grading, retaining wall construction and associated costs.
Disadvantages: Steep slope between trail and road. Some loss of trees and brush.
SEGMENT 2
Description: This segment provides trail continuity within the Lake Shore Avenue / Old Co.
Rd. C right -of -way.
Significant issues: Listed as follows:
1. Trees, power poles and landscaping will be disturbed.
2. Which side of the road to locate the trail / walk?
3. Is this segment "redundant" to Sections B and C of Segment 1? If this segment is
constructed is there still a need for Segment 1, Sections B and C?
Advantages: Two minor advantages exist. One is it provides access to the trail to
residential properties not abutting Segment 1, Sections B and C. The other is that this
segment provides trail / walk continuity within the street right -of- way which may have some
advantages over routing the trail through Australian and the off road easement of Section
C.
Disadvantages: Compared to Segment 1, Sections B and C, this route is more expensive
and there are more difficult yard and landscape issues to deal with.
SEGMENT 3
Description: This segment provides access to Savage Lake.
Significant issues: Do the benefits justify the expense?
Advantages: Provides access to Savage Lake.
Disadvantages: None apparent other than cost to benefit consideration.
Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik & Assoc., Inc.
