MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 10, 2013
extent of the violations. The Code Enforcement Officer indicated that
when she drove around the City taking pictures of examples, she was
surprised at the number of trailers that are being stored on residential lots.
Schwalbach noted that that storage will change depending on the season.
Maleitzke referred to the pictures showing examples of various parking
and storage scenarios. She asked if City staff could provide examples that
contained addresses so that the Commission could view these properties.
The Code Enforcement Officer indicated that she would provide some
additional examples prior to the next Planning Commission meeting.
Duray asked the CEO's opinion on storage in the side yard. The Officer
replied that some people want to store in their side yards, and others
complain when this storage occurs. The CEO indicated that she
personally prefers to see open space between properties and not storage up
against property lines. Schwalbach questioned the difference between
storage in the side yard and on the front driveway. He pointed out that
some items being stored may not look good in either location.
Greg Cylkowski, Ontario Road, appeared at the workshop and provided
information relative to his observation of properties and neighborhoods as
part of his travels as well as a history of his residency in Little Canada.
Cylkowski indicated that when property owners no longer take care of
their properties, neighborhoods fall into decline. Cylkowski expressed
concern for the condition of his neighborhood. 1 l encouraged the
Council and Planning Commission to enact tough standards and to enforce
them.
Blesener agreed that the City has to have good standards, but must also be
flexible. He noted that people have a lot of toys, and pointed out that it is
expensive to store RVs, trailers, etc. off -site. Blesener indicated,
however, that he understood the points raised by Cylkowski.
The City Planner suggested that at this point, the Code Enforcement
Officer would put some additional picture examples together with
addresses, and he would look at the chart language relative to storage in
side yards. This information will be presented to the Commission at their
next meeting.
5
