LITTLE FREE LIBRARY PROPOSAL "Take a Book — Return a Book" Oct. 2, 2013
As requested at the Little Canada City Council meeting on 9/25/13, the following outlines the proposal
for the installation and maintenance of a "Little Free Library" in little Canada as proposed by Little
Canada Book Club.
• The book club will be responsible for the purchase of materials and construction or purchase of
pre -made Little Free Library.
• The book club will be responsible for registering the Little Free Library with the Little Free
Library organization and will pay associated fees as required by Little Free Library organization.
• The book club will be responsible for acting as Stewards of the Little Free Library. This will
include:
1. Initially stocking the library with books
2. Maintaining appropriate selection of books
3. Overseeing the condition of the books and the Little Free Library on a regular
basis; initially it will be on a weekly basis moving to bi- weekly as needed.
4. Promote use and support of Little Free Library in the community.
• Some concern about possible vandalism was voiced at the City Council meeting. The Little Free
Library organization has addressed that issue in a document that Is attached. Suggestions for
prevention include locating the LFL in a well -lit location where passing traffic can see it, ensuring
the LFL is well maintained and including a sign asking users to assist in overseeing the LFL. With
over 55,000 Little Free Libraries world -wide, less than .01 % have reported vandalism.
• The Little Free Library will be located on City of Little Canada property; location to be
determined.
• The Book Club is proposing the installation of the Little Free Library as a gift to the community to
promote the love of reading for Little Canada citizens of all ages.
Respectfully,
Barbara Anderson, Lorraine Anderson, Bev Collova, Sue Hawkinson, Phyllis Kendig, Mary Lou Kostecki,
Vivian LaRock, Vicki Marlowe, Bonnie Pope, Julie Rindelaub
4
