MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
May 4, 1995
Remerowski felt that it would be foolish to install an off -
street path when there are no others in the area. The
Director stated that there would be room to install an off -
street path on Arcade Street north of LaBore Road, but there
would be much less room south of LaBore. He felt that an
on- street path would be the better option.
Holm asked if on- street paths were needed on both sides of
Arcade Street. The Director stated that it would make the
street more safe for pedestrians and bikers.
Remerowski asked how the paths would be paid for. The
Director stated that they would probably be included within
the road project. However, the Council is currently
reviewing their assessment policy. Remerowski stated that
he did not want to see the park budget pick up a big
percentage of the cost for those paths. He felt that the
City should look at widening that road from a safety
standpoint. He felt that it would not necessarily have to
be marked as a trail. The Director stated that it is a very
important link so residents north of LaBore can have easier
access to the lake.
Greger was concerned that there may not be a big demand for
paths in that area. He felt that the widened road would not
have to be marked as a trail. He also stated that a path on
only one side would be less expensive. Johnson stated that
paths are needed on both sides of Arcade to make it more
safe for pedestrians and bikers. She felt that it was a
very important link that is used now by the residents in the
area.
Sanders stated that five foot paths on each side would be
preferred over three foot paths. Three foot paths would
mean that people would have to walk single file.
Greger recommended five foot, on- street paths on both sides
of Arcade Street from LaBore Road to Keller Parkway.
Motion seconded by Johnson.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
The Director stated that this matter can be discussed again
closer to the time of construction.
DENERY Remerowski stated that the developer of the Denery property
UPDATE is purchasing the City's property adjacent to their plat.
He indicated that the purchase price is $15,000.
Remerowski felt that this transaction was a good one since
PAGE 122
