Hanson <br />TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br />DATE: November 13, 2013 <br />RE: 2858 Centerville Road Structural Analysis <br />The City received five responses to our Request for Structural Evaluation Services. The <br />five quotations (copies attached) are as follows: <br />• Paulson & Clark Engineering, Inc $800 - $1,200 (not a detailed <br />roof evaluation — need another company for that) <br />• Larson Engineering, Inc $2,200 <br />• Reigstad & Associates, Inc $2,000 - $2,500 <br />• SEH, Inc $2,200 <br />• Wenzel Engineering, Inc $3,700 = ($800 - $1,100 for roof) <br />In reviewing the submittals received, I was struck with the honesty of Paulson & Clark <br />where they said "it is highly unlikely that the building in question would be suitable as a <br />Salt /Sand Storage Building without significant modifications." Given the nature of the <br />building and the conflicts with salt /moisture, and steel, I would assume all firms realize <br />this. Paulson & Clark doesn't want to charge us to reach what appears to be an obvious <br />conclusion. <br />Furthermore, after reading all of the proposals and talking with a few of the firms, the <br />evaluation of the roof need not occur at this time. If the floor is inadequate, we won't <br />need to worry about the roof. If the floor is adequate and we want to continue exploring <br />the re -use of this building, we can incorporate that evaluation into the Architect's work <br />scope for the overall project. <br />Therefore, I recommend we retain Paulson & Clark for the structural evaluation of the <br />building at 2858 Centerville Road based on the proposal the submitted. <br />
