MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 14, 2013
STORAGE AND
PARKING ON
RESIDENTIAL
PROPERTIES
that the change proposed was a good one and gave 1 -P property owner the
opportunity to address extra outdoor storage needs.
Duray asked if the amendment would allow an I -P property owner to rent
their outdoor storage space. The Planner replied that it would not. Off -
site outdoor storage would only be allowed in the 1 -1 District, but would
be available for rent by Little Canada 1 -1 and I -P property owners.
Duray asked if this change was requested by a particular business. The
City Planner indicated that staff is proposing the change in an attempt to
assist some of the I -P businesses in the City to have additional outdoor
storage opportunities. The Planner again noted that outdoor storage in the
I -P District is limited.
Maleitzke recommended approval of the Text Amendment to the Zoning
Code Section 914.045 allowing off -site outdoor storage from Industrial
Park (I -P) District properties as an interim use on Light - Industrial (I -1)
District properties as recommended by the City Planner in his November
8, 2013 report.
Motion seconded by Schwalbach.
Motion carried 7 -- 0.
The City Planner reviewed his October 4, 2013 report relative to a
Text Amendment to the Zoning Code Sections 903.020.0 and 903.050
for storage and parking on residential properties. The Planner noted that
City Council and the Planning Commission held a workshop about a
month ago and reviewed this issue. I-Ie reviewed the table, definitions,
and graphic which was presented and reviewed at the workshop meeting.
The Planner asked if the Commission has any additional comments or
suggestions relative to this information. Ile indicated that once finalized,
the information would be added to Section 903 of the Code.
Duray asked if any changes had been made since this information was
reviewed at the workshop. The Planner replied that no changes had been
made. Duray clarified that a lot of this information is already in the Code.
The planner replied that that is correct. He noted that including the chart
and graphic as part of the Code will make it easier for people to interpret
parking and storage regulations for their property.
Schwalbach asked if the Code would be enforced pro- actively or on a
complaint basis. He also asked if a brochure outlining these regulations
would be put together that could be given to people who have questions or
compliance issues with this parking and storage. The Planner indicated
-2-
