traffic over the BNSF /MN Commercial railroad line) to the northern border of the City of Little
Canada Public Works garage property at 3100 Country Drive. Access into the worksite has been
granted to MnDOT by the City of Little Canada through the Public Works facility, and access away
from the worksite is being negotiated to occur through 3148 Country Drive.
Project Purpose
This project will provide permanent repair to stabilize the slope along the eastbound I -694 to
southbound I -35E connection on the east side of the Unweave the Weave area. The existing slope
has been creeping since the Unweave the Weave construction due to a combination of factors,
including deep organic soils underneath the area and the placement of additional fill over these
highly organic soils. MnDOT has been monitoring the slope creep and has determined that the
slope should be stabilized in order to address the regular maintenance currently needed to the
roadway shoulder and slope. A soldier pile wall has been determined as the appropriate solution to
stabilize the slope.
Project Schedule
This project will be let on March 28, 2014. The major impacts of construction are anticipated to
occur during July 2014 while pile driving occurs. The project will be completed by fall 2014.
Good Faith Cost Estimate
The City's cost participation for this project is zero dollars. MnDOT does not show that there are
any items that the City would have to pay for as of the date this project report was submitted. For
example, there are not any traffic signals, additional aesthetic treatments, additional lanes,
additional shoulders, or additional sidewalks that the City would need to participate in funding. At
this time there does not seem to be any reason to create a cooperative construction agreement
with the City.
City Maintenance Responsibilities
There are no changes in maintenance responsibilities within the I -35E right of way. There are no
other added maintenance responsibilities for the City as a result of this project
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this submittal.
Sin erely,
nifer Read, P.E.
Project Manager
MnDOT Metro District
An Equal Opportunity Employer
3
