During this year, the Steering Committee and
staff put the Watershed Plan endorsed by local communities in
1994 into action.
With a base budget of $75,000 to cover staff and
administrative costs, we leveraged over $500,000 in public
and private funds for projects that benefit local
communities, businesses, citizens, and natural resources.
Highlights among these projects have included the
following:
Innovative Stormwater Project - with funding from
the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources
(LCMR), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and
City of Maplewood, we are trying new methods for
infiltrating stormwater in a typical neighborhood.
Results should be applicable in many parts of the _
Watershed.
Phalen Wetland Park - with funds from the LCMR,
project partners will complete the first phase of
this unique wetland restoration in St. Paul.
Sod Farm Site Wetlands, Trails and Education
Project - worked with the City of North St. Paul
and the U of M Department of Landscape
Architecture to secure funds for the design phase
of this project.
Assistance to Lake Associations at Round Lake
and Gervais Lakes - technical assistance provided
on water quality issues and Eurasian Water Milfoil
control to two lake associations in Little Canada.
Page 7
