MINUTES <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 3, 1994 <br />Wehrle felt that the City should acquire the outstanding <br />pieces of park property first and then look at priorities <br />for development of that property using the remaining park <br />acquisition funds for that purpose. <br />Remerowski suggested that in late Spring the Commission <br />tour the City to get a better understanding of what <br />additional parcels may be needed. <br />Johnson felt there should be a little more park <br />development on the west side of the freeway. <br />Remerowski pointed out that if the City tries to purchase <br />property that is not for sale, it will pay a premium for <br />that property. Remerowski also pointed out that some <br />property owners may be unwilling to sell. <br />The Director reported that the Jackson Street site is for <br />sale, however, the property owner may be unwilling to <br />sell only a portion of the property. <br />Remerowski pointed out that when the property is <br />developed, the City can require a land dedication from <br />the property owner. <br />Wehrle suggested that the Commission look at the site to <br />determine if this is the best location for a neighborhood <br />park. <br />The Director felt this area may be more desirable <br />pointing out better access from the neighborhood as well <br />as the adjacent multiple- family housing. <br />Sanders also suggested that the City approach the <br />Turnquists again to see if their parcel is available. <br />Wehrle asked how the City has approached property owners <br />in the past to determine if they have an interest in <br />selling. <br />Sanders thought that the last time this was done, the <br />City Attorney made the contacts. <br />The Director felt the idea of a tour was a 'good one so <br />that the newer members of the Commission are more <br />familiar with the properties being discussed. <br />5 <br />Page 78 <br />
