SEP -27 -1995 12:25
Product
NAC 612 595 9837 P.03/e3
The product would be a guidebook which lists the City's architectural objectives, as well as
drawings which help illustrate the intent. In addition to giving the City a measuring tool, the
guidebook would allow developers and architects to understand the important design issues in the
community and project area. Due to the broad range of architectural treatments, and a
corresponding broad range of architectural tastes, we believe that it would be difficult for the City
to establish, and agree upon, a single design in the guidelines. The guidebook would establish the
issues that are the most important, and how they should be treated, but still allow competing
architects to use their design creativity.
Staffing and .Budget
NAC would conduct a series of meetings with the members of a "focus group °, consisting of
members of the Planning Commission, City Council, and community -at- large, perhaps members
of the Community Pride Committee and Parks Commission, to establish a draft set of guidelines.
NAC staff involved would include Robert Kirmis, AICP, an architect/urban designer, and Daniel
Sjordal, " ASIA, a registered landscape architect, as well as Stephen Grinman,
NAC vice president and Little Canada's planner for over ten years. This focus group process
would identify the design issues and options which the City would have to consider as a part of
the design review process, working toward the creation of an initial guidebook. It is important
to build those who will be implementing the guidebook standards into guidebook development.
The City should consider membership of the focus group with this in mind.
We would estimate the time and budget for this process and product as follows:
Focus Group meetings: 4 @ 3 hrs. each, 2 staff members, $55 /hr.
Senior Staff Guidebook development: 20 hrs., $65/hr.
Support Staff Guidebook development: 35 hrs., $451hr.
Expenses, including printing, travel, etc.
TOTAL
$ 1,220.00
1,300.00
1,575.00
20000
$ 4,295.00
Thank you for the opportunity to continue our assistance to the City of Little Canada.
TOTAL P.03
