MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
AUGUST 10, 1995
vehicle.
Mr. Wahlberg felt the truck was comparable to a
recreational vehicle.
Schletty stated that unfortunately the truck is a
different kind of vehicle, and one that can change the
character of a neighborhood.
Mrs. Wahlberg felt that the situation was a little
different due to the limited number of homes in the
area and given that the truck would not be visible from
the surrounding homes.
Garske indicated that the truck would set an impression
as people drive into the area.
Foster reported that most of the people living in the
area are business people with commercial vehicles.
Garske pointed out that pick -up trucks are acceptable.
Mrs. Wahlberg reported that they have been looking for
a long time for a piece of property like this one. The
house is well maintained, and they would increase the
looks of the property rather than decrease.
DeLonais suggested that the Wahlberg's build a garage
to house the truck.
Mr. Wahlberg replied that he could not afford the
expense of a new garage at this time.
The City Planner reported that his recommendation to
the Wahlberg's was rather than pursue a variance for
the size of the vehicle, that they pursue a conditional
use permit for a garage. However, that issue would
have to be debated as well since one of the
considerations is whether the garage would be used for
business purposes. The Planner reported that the
criteria to justify variance approval has not been met.
Garske stated that he could not support approval of the
variance due to the precedent which would be set.
Garske felt variance approval could result in a
property owner requesting to park a semi on residential
property.
5
Page 42
