MINUTES PLANNING COMMISSION AUGUST 10, 1995 Schletty agreed, but stated that he would not be opposed to construction of a garage to house the truck. Schletty pointed out that the truck is only 2,000 pounds over the limit, and is not much different than an RV. Schletty recommended denial of the Variance to allow outdoor parking of a truck which exceeds 12,000 pounds gross vehicle weight in a residential area because of the precedent which would be set in the community if the variance were approved. Motion seconded by Garske. Motion carried 6 - 0. AMEND I -P The City Planner presented a proposed amendment to DISTRICT the I -P District which would prohibit the stockpiling and recycling of aggregate materials in supplies of more than 25 cubic yards. The Planner reported that this prohibition already exists in the I -1 District. The Planner reported that the issue came up as a result of some code enforcement activities on a business in the I -P District. Garske recommended approval of the amendment to the I -P District adding language prohibiting the stockpiling and recycling of aggregate materials in supplies of more than 25 cubic yards. Motion seconded by Keis. Motion carried 6 - 0. ARCHITECTURAL The City Planner reviewed his report dated August 8, CONTROLS 1995 which describes methods of controlling aesthetic issues in commercial districts. The report listed four methods of regulation, the first being sign codes. The Planner pointed out that the City currently regulates signs through limits on height, area, and setback. The second method would be regulation through building materials standards. Again, the City does have some controls in place on building materials. Two other options are regulation through appearance codes /design standards and architectural design review. The Planner asked the Commission for their reaction to the levels 6 Page 43
