MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 6, 1995
Johnson asked how the parks and open spaces committee saw
the County parks working together with the cities. They saw
the County, cities and school districts working together so
that different recreational facilities were used full -time.
Sanders asked if this program would be tied to a physical
plan. Theurer stated that eventually it will, but the next
phase will answer what services will be provided and who
will provide them.
Johnson asked if anyone from Little Canada was on the
committee. •Theurer was unsure.
Theurer presented the Commission with the parks and open
spaces vision statement, and asked them to discuss it and
mail it back to the County by July 31 with their comments.
PIONEER Remerowski stated that he would prefer that the Pioneer Park
PARK parking issue be discussed tonight only by the Commission.
PARKING He indicated that once the Commission has made a decision on
the matter, it will go to the Council for approval. The
homeowners could then take up the issue with the Council.
Remerowski asked how many parking spaces would be provided
if the parking ban was lifted on one side of Desoto Street.
The Director stated that approximately 25 spaces would be
freed up on the west side. Remerowski asked what the
initial plan was for expansion of the lot on Desoto Street.
The Director indicated that two additional lots, the same
size as the existing one, were planned to the north along
Desoto Street. Johnson asked how many spaces are available
on the grassy overflow lot located south of the DeSoto lot.
The Director stated that approximately 45 spaces are in that
area.
Johnson asked if the overflow lot gets used often. The
Director indicated that it does. He stated that tonight
there were a dozen cars in the overflow lot with three
fields being used. All three fields being used tonight were
for youth softball, with no adults playing. He commented
that about 200 to 220 spaces total are needed at the park.
There are about 127 spaces now without the overflow lot.
Remerowski stated that the overflow lot cannot be relied on
forever since it will eventually become a small ball field
as depicted in the original design of the park.
Doolittle asked if Roseville Area Middle School is used for
ball games. The Director stated that it is used for
children's and adults' games. Doolittle felt that games
should be diverted to other fields to help the parking
problem at Pioneer Park. Remerowski disagreed since the
park would not be used to its full potential.
-5-
Page 83
