MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: John D. Pechman, Code Enforcement Official
DATE: July 19, 1995
RE: Code Enforcement Update
Over the past few months you have received periodic updates on
code enforcement activities. I have handled eighty -six issues
since beginning my internship in early March. To give you a
rough comparison, last year the City handled seventy issues over
the course of the whole year. A combination of the proactive and
reactive style of enforcement has had a lot to do with the
increased amount of issues.
The completion rate for issues being resolved is 70 %. I consider
this percentage to be very good, although there is always room
for improvement. I firmly believe the 70% completion rate can be
attributed to having someone on a full time basis working on
these issues. I am reaffirmed of this by the calls I have
received from concerned citizens thanking me for prompt action,
returning their calls, and updating them on the issues they feel
are important.
When I look forward to the rest of my internship tenure, I hope
to continue to improve on the completion percentage while
remembering what has made enforcement successful in the past.
Page 82
