MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
J1il.y 6, 1995
DeSoto Street, he felt the lots on Centerville and DeSoto
would still .get filled first.
Doolittle stated.that other options should be considered
before a final decision is made on the parking issue. Craig
Larson, a resident of DeSoto Street attending the meeting,
asked why parking along the garages on the south side of the
park was never pursued. Sanders stated that there would be
a circulation problem along the garages. The Director
stated that there would also be a.. visibility problem which
could cause a security issue. Greger felt that parking
along the garages could become overflow parking for the
apartment residents. The Director stated that parking in
that location would require a wide entrance into it which
could only be accomplished on the DeSoto Street side.
Remerowski recommended lifting the parking ban on the west
side of DeSoto Street and postponing the expansion of the
DeSoto Street parking lot.
Motion seconded by Greger.
Motion carried 4 - 2. Magnuson & Doolittle voted against.
Holm stated that he felt the residents present should be
given the opportunity to voice their opinions. Johnson
agreed.
Craig Larson of 2910 DeSoto Street favors the parking ban on
both sides of DeSoto Street. Jim Wilhelm of 2900 DeSoto
Street indicated that he was concerned about the safety of
the children on DeSoto. He felt that parking on the street
would not be a safe move.
Remerowski stated that the Commission is very concerned
about safety. However, they also have to be concerned about
how public dollars are spent. Greger stated that DeSoto
Street was designed extra wide to allow for on- street
parking.
Larson was concerned with on- street parking since he felt
that ball players would be driving after consuming beer.
Remerowski stated that if drinking becomes a problem, the
residents should call the Ramsey County Sheriff. Greger
felt that whether the parking is occurring on or off the
street, if alcohol is involved, the danger would be there.
Remerowski asked if there were drawings on the parking
expansion proposed for the Centerville Road side. Sanders
stated that there are a couple of proposals. The first
contains 30 spaces which expands the current lot north up to
the edge of the woods. The second plan contains 75 to 80
-7-
Page 85
