MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 6, 1995
spaces and expands the lot north into the woods.
Approximately half of the woods and brush area would have to
be removed with the second option.
Remerowski asked how many nights the Spooner Park picnic
shelters have been used. The Director stated that they are
used a lot during June, July and August. He does have
problems scheduling around Canadian Days since Spooner Park
is used for the celebration. It was the Director's opinion
that a third shelter is not needed in the City today. The
City should wait until the demand is there. Remerowski
stated that if additional parking is needed, it could be
discussed when the shelter at Pioneer is added.
Holm stated that there was talk in the past about sharing a
parking lot with the businesses that are located north of
the park. He felt that the City should wait on the
additional parking until that option happens. Remerowski
felt that the businesses would want a kick back. Holm
stated that the businesses could donate land to the City for
the parking. Holm stated that the increased traffic on
Centerville Road is also a safety issue. Remerowski agreed
stating that there are safety issues all around the park.
Remerowski felt that parents need to watch their children
and not let them play in the street. One resident of Desoto
Street stated that there is an autistic child in the
neighborhood who gets free and runs into the street from
time to time which cannot be prevented. She felt that
DeSoto Street would become a.speedway especially by people
drinking beer. Remerowski felt that the Sheriff should be
called to regulate speed if it becomes a problem.
A resident stated that she would like to see a fire pit,
shelter and grills added to Pioneer Park. She stated that
she hardly ever sees the DeSoto Street parking lot full.
Johnson stated that a shelter is budgeted for 1997. The
resident asked if a fire ring could be built next to the
pond at Pioneer. The Director stated that there are fire
rings in Spooner Park now. He felt that her request could
be addressed, but the fire would have to remain small if it
was decided to install a fire ring.
Remerowski stated that if parking was added onto the
Centerville Road parking lot half way into the trees, there
would be a total of 227 spaces including the DeSoto Street
parking on the street.
Greger felt that it was premature to expand the Centerville
Road parking lot. He felt that people should be directed
over to the DeSoto side, the Commission should review the
designs for the Centerville parking expansion, and the
-8-
Page 86
