MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 10, 1993
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Hanson.
Ayes (2) LaValle, Hanson.
Nays (3) Pedersen, Scalze, Morelan.
Resolution denied.
Pedersen did not feel the matter needed to be tabled
merely for additional information. Pedersen pointed
out that the parking is needed, there is $14,000 in the
Park Development Fund that could be used for the
parking, and the additional $5,000 necessary could come
from the 10% gambling funds.
LaValle indicated that he wanted this information prior
to voting on the issue. LaValle was concerned about
the impact of additional parking on the Centerville
Road and Desoto Street residents, and suggested that
perhaps the place for additional parking is behind the
Quality Blacktop property.
Morelan felt the additional parking was required and
indicated that he honestly believed the place for that
parking was on the Centerville Road side of the Park.
However, since the cost is prohibitive for adding the
parking on that side, he was willing to support the
recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission
to add the parking to the Desoto Street side..
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 93 -3 -66 - AWARDING THE LOW BID FOR
ADDITION OF 35 PARKING SPACES ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE
DESOTO STREET PARKING LOT AT A COST OF $19,480
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (2) Morelan, Pedersen.
Nays (3) Hanson, Scalze, LaValle.
Resolution denied.
The Director indicated that he appreciated the
Council's effort in this matter and the difficult time
that the members are having with the issue. However,
the Director indicated that he is having a difficult
time responding to questions from the adult leagues on
field availability during the 1993 season. The
Director asked if temporary parking could be used to
accommodate the teams that played in the City during
1992.
Morelan made a motion to allow parking on the west side
of DeSoto Street for the 1993 season. This motion died
for lack of a second.
Page 19
