February 20. 1995
To: Mike Fahey - Mayor
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Subject: Jackson Trail /Walkway
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
Joel Hanson
Last summer a petition was presented to the City Council
with signatures of neighbors who were againest a paved
path from Demont Ave. to Bluwood Ave. The Council voted
to hold off till spring when the road improvement would
come up again.
What could be done with $38.000.00 - instead of a paved -
path that toes nowhere?
- Repave the existing path on County Road C that is so
cracked up its dangerous for walkers.
- Repair bleachers at our ballfields
- Repair (brand new) picnic tables at Pioneer Park
-:Add woodchips or sand to our play areas
- Put in the parking area so badly needed and wanted at
Pioneer Park
We're sure there are many projects and equipment that needs
upgrading or repair. If we don't maintain what we already
are so lucky to have, it will be worthless in a few years.
Maybe all we need are a couple of signs posted showing
where the path is.
As stated in Meeting Notes from Tuesday, July 19. 1994.
The City Administrator said if the property owners in the
area do not want the walkway and since the Park and Re-
creation Commission recommended againest it - the walkway
will not be put in.
In all fairness maybe a survey is needed of area residents
to see if the path is needed. Information about the path
should be given -
- How much it costs
- A map showing where it will be
- What would be changed (tree's removed. etc.)
- Would the path be plowed so kid's would use it to walk
to the Bus Stop or hockey rink?
- How would it be maintained - (weed's cut, cracks filled,)
- Finally, ask the people if they would use it.
Page 2
