DISCIPLINARY ACTION <br />General Policy <br />A municipal employee is the beneficiary of certain privileges and <br />benefits which are set forth in this policy. In exchange, the <br />City requires standards of conduct and behavior calculated to <br />best ensure good government for the citizens of Little Canada. <br />Warning and Reprimand <br />Whenever work habits, attitudes, productivity or personal conduct <br />of an employee fall below the required standard or under one of <br />the causes for action listed below, the employee's supervisor <br />shall inform him /her promptly and specifically of such lapses. <br />If appropriate and justified, following a discussion of the <br />matter, a reasonable time for improvement or correction may be <br />allowed before any further disciplinary action is initiated. In <br />situations where an oral warning has not resulted in the <br />correction of the condition or where more severe initial action <br />is warranted, a written reprimand shall be sent to the employee <br />and a copy placed in the employee's personnel file. <br />Suspension <br />A. Subject to approval of the City Council, the City <br />Administrator may suspend any employee with pay pending <br />completion of an investigation which may result in <br />suspension or dismissal when the City Administrator believes <br />such action is in the best interest of the City. <br />B. Subject to approval of the City Council, the City <br />Administrator may suspend an employee without pay for up to <br />thirty (30) calendar days in any one (1) calendar year for <br />any causes listed in this policy. <br />Notice of suspension shall be in writing. <br />Demotion and Dismissal <br />A. The City Council, or City Administrator with concurrence of <br />the City Council, may discharge employees for just cause. <br />Just cause includes, but is not limited to, violations of <br />the working rules as outlined in "Major Work Rule Offenses ". <br />Notice of such action shall be in writing. <br />B. All permanent employees shall have the right of appeal as <br />outlined in the Grievance Section. <br />36 <br />
