515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.l ittle- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: January 17, 2014
RE: City Attorney Agreement
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL.
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Attached is a proposed engagement letter with Kelly & Lemmons for legal services. As you may
recall, we hired them in 2008 for both civil and prosecutorial services. That initial agreement has
expired and this renewal is proposed.
The hourly rate for civil services is the same as the initial contract. For prosecution services,
they are proposing an increase in the monthly maximum to $6,133. The current amount is
$5,000 per month and services have routinely exceeded that figure. They also mentioned court
calendars have been reconfigured resulting in more court time than originally contemplated.
Because we have already set our 2014 budget, they have generously agreed to phase in this
change whereby 1/2 of the desired increase will occur in 2014 and the full amount will be in place
for 2015.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed legal services agreement as proposed.
1
