MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />FEBRUARY 6, 2014 <br />RECREATION McGinnity reported that the Annual Skating Party will be held this <br />REPORT Saturday, February 8111, from 1:30 p.ni. to 3:30 p.m. at the Old Fire Barns. <br />The next Marketplace Morning Talk is next Wednesday, February 12th, at <br />the Little Canada Bingo Hall at 9:30 a.m. and the topic will be <br />Transportation Resources for Disabled and Older Adults. <br />McGinnity indicated that the youth activities registration flyer has been <br />distributed. Registrations are being taken for a basketball clinic, winter <br />gymnastics, acrobatics and tumbling, skating lessons, and fastpitch <br />softball. <br />McGinnity reported that LCRA is taking youth basketball teams to a <br />Timberwolves game on March 9th• <br />A flyer for a Friends of the Parks Tree Sale was distributed. <br />McGinnity indicated that the City has been approached by the Susan G. <br />Komen Foundation about a route through Little Canada for their August <br />23rd walk. More information on this will follow. <br />REQUEST McGinnity reported that a young man has approached the City with a <br />FOR request for a community center in Little Canada. A meeting was held <br />COMMUNITY with this individual, and the cost - effectiveness of running a community <br />CENTER center was explained. The individual then indicated that there is the Tree <br />House Group that puts together activities for teens in the community. The <br />Parks & Recreation Department will be evaluating this program, and <br />further information will follow. <br />VETERANS Sanders reported that he has learned of a grant program from the State <br />MEMORIAL that the Veterans Memorial Project may qualify for. He is in the process <br />of putting together an application. Grant potential would be in the <br />$10,000 to $15,000 range. Sanders indicated that he will keep the <br />Commission informed on this process. <br />CHAIR AND <br />VICE CHAIR <br />The City Clerk reported that the Council appointed Patti Sullivan as <br />Chair of the Parks & Recreation Commission for 2014. It is now up to the <br />Commission to nominate and appoint a Vice Chair for 2014. <br />By unanimous vote of the Commission, Kong Vang was elected as Vice <br />Chair for 2014. <br />4 <br />
