MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
April 6, 1995
TIMA LOT
SPLIT
elMar
The Director stated that Louis Tima wishes to subdivide his
property located on Bluwood Avenue in order to create two
lots to the north of his home. The Director asked the
Commission if they preferred land or cash for the park
charge on this subdivision.
The Commission felt that additional park land would not be
needed in that area since there is already a trail easement
and right -of -way on Jackson Street. Sanders agreed stating
that he could not see that extra land in that area would be
usable.
Johnson recommended accepting cash in lieu of land for the
park dedication fee on the Tima subdivision on Bluwood
Avenue.
Motion seconded by Doolittle.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
MISSION The Director stated that a committee consisting of Council
STATEMENT Member Steve Morelan, the City Administrator, the Fire
Chief, former Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Ken
Wehrle, and Mayor Fahey have met to formulate the City's
Mission Statement as shown on page 2 of the agenda. He
indicated that the City Council has asked that the Parks &
Recreation Commission review this Mission Statement and
comment on it.
Holm felt that the word "customers" in the first paragraph
should be defined. He was unsure if "customers" included
residents and businesses. He felt that Little Canada could
be friendlier to the business community, and the
relationship of businesses to the City should be addressed
in the Mission Statement. Holm thought that the word
"customers" should be replaced by "residents and
businesses ".
The Director stated that he did not like the word "urban" in
the last paragraph because he felt it denotes downtown. He
felt suburban or rural was more appropriate in that area.
He stated that he has already given this comment to the
Administrative Assistant.
Holm felt that the Mission Statement should promote areas
for recreational use. It should encourage use of the City's
parks.
Sanders felt that the Mission Statement should talk about
preserving the heritage and the natural environment of the
community.
-2-
Page 25
