MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 13, 1995
to a fence being put up, service vehicles used private
property to turn around. Judd was concerned about the
access for emergency vehicles. Judd indicated that the
issue is not just about the City giving Mr. Tima
approval to subdivide, but also about resolving the
access problems on Australian.
Morelan suggested that the Magnuson house probably
should not have been built without addressing the
problem on Australian. Morelan stated that although
access is less than desirable, the Fire Department will
get to emergency situations on Australian. Morelan
suggested that it might be an option to allow Mr. Tima
to divide his property, allow access via driveways off
Bluwood and Australian, and tackle the issue of
improving access in the area when the roads are
considered for reconstruction.
Schletty pointed out that the problem will not go away.
Schletty also pointed out that he has heard Morelan
comment at Council meetings when considering plats or
property divisions about access for the Fire Department
and emergency vehicles. Schletty stated that he did
not support a 30 -foot radius cul -de -sac. Schletty
pointed out that the City does have the option of doing
nothing since all requirements cannot be met under the
Subdivision Ordinance.
Judd stated that perhaps the Magnuson house would not
have been built as it exists today, but indicated that
the Morelan garage is too close to the property line.
Judd pointed out that there is a 40 -foot right -of -way
for Australian. Judd stated that she takes offense to
the comment that the issue is before the City just
because Mr. Tima wants to sell his property. Judd
reported that Mr. Tima is not trying to put a hardship
on anyone, and would work with the City to resolve the
problem for the better of everyone.
Carson asked if the Australian cul -de -sac could be
moved further toward the railroad.
Knudsen pointed out that this would take more of the
Tima and Magnuson properties. It also moves the cul-
de -sac closer to the Magnuson home.
Morelan stated that moving the cul -de -sac further west
would result in the loss of property for the Magnuson's
9
Page 34
