MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 13, 1995
Morelan reported that a school bus comes down Bluwood
each day to pick up his son and turns by backing out of
his driveway. Service vehicles turn around by using
the partial cul -de -sac at the end of Bluwood. Morelan
reported that Public Works has informed him that they
would prefer the cul -de -sacs to the street connection
due to the 90 degree corners that would be at the
intersections. Public Works indicated that those
corners are just as difficult to plow as a cul -de -sac.
Keis asked about the school bus situation.
Morelan reported that the Magnuson's want the school
bus to come down Australian to pick up day care
children, rather than having them walk to Lakeshore.
Morelan reported that he talked to property owners in
the Lake /Lakeshore /Rose area, and school buses will not
come through that loop. Neighborhood children have to
walk to Jackson street to catch the school bus.
Magnuson reported that she has a young daughter who has
to wait for the school bus alone. The school district
has said that in this instance they would send the bus
down the street if Jackson Street were improved so the
bus could loop through the area.
Carson pointed out that there is a 40 foot right -of -way
for Australian which is the same right -of -way proposed
for Jackson.
Keis asked if the Commission could send the Council a
recommendation on the lot split issue without
commenting on the street /cul -de -sac issue. Keis
pointed out that the issue will come up again when the
streets are reconstructed.
Judd reported that in 1986 Mr. Tima requested the
subdivision of his property. The Planning Commission
recommended approval for the subdivision indicating
that access could be via driveways from Bluwood and
Australian. When the issue was presented to the City
Council, it was denied since there was not enough
frontage on an improved street. Mr. Tima has now
brought the issue back to the City, and it was felt
that there is a way to resolve the access issue. Mrs.
Judd pointed out that something must be done with
Australian Avenue. Garbage trucks are not able to
turn - around on the street. Judd pointed out that prior
8
Page 33
