515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: May 19, 1995
RE: Old Fire Hall Renovation Update
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morel=
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R Hanson
In proceeding with the renovation of the old fire hall, we
reconvened members of the committee which initially discussed
this topic. Based on the results of that meeting, the project
has changed in scope. (Attached is the diagram from past
discussions which had allocated space within this facility.)
Some of the key points coming out of that meeting are as follows:
* Plan for additional parking at building. Options to be
considered include purchase of additional land along
Little Canada Road and moving pleasure rink to a point
south of the hockey rink. Promotion of the use of the
Credit Union parking lot should also occur.
* The upper level's easterly two bays as well as the
office area should be renovated for use by the
Historical Society. (Historical Society layout plan
attached.)
* The westerly two bays currently occupied by Public
Works should be vacated and provide for future use by
the Historical Society. This will necessitate the
construction of other space to house equipment
contained there. Planning for this possibility should
commence at this time.
* Create opportunities for natural lighting in lower
level meeting areas.
* Solicit additional funding assistance from community's
charitable organizations.
* Renovation project will need to include removal of
existing fuel tanks, improved security system, an
evaluation of the need for re- roofing, and the ADA
Page 96
