MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 6, 2014 <br />Maida suggested that Sanders put together a list of possible improvements <br />that would be doable with the amount of this donation. Fahey suggested <br />that a park bench with a plaque should be a part of the improvement. The <br />Director indicated that a park bench with a plaque would run about $1,000 <br />to $1,200, and suggested that the bench in combination with a landscape <br />improvement would be workable. <br />Vang asked if there was a water fountain in the park. Sanders noted that <br />there are fountains by the upper shelter and Gilbertson Field, and a water <br />pump by the lower shelter. <br />Sanders indicated that he would bring a list of possible improvements to <br />the next Commission meeting. <br />BALLFIELD The Director reported that the committee met to discuss the Ballfield <br />USAGE Usage Policy, and based on those discussions, he will put together a <br />POLICY policy draft for Commission review at an upcoming meeting. Once <br />reviewed and approved by the Commission, it will be submitted to the <br />Council for approval. <br />FIRE The Director reported that the construction manager for the Fire Barns <br />BARNS Warming House Project is taking quotes for the project and will be <br />WARMING making a recommendation to the Council on bid awards at an upcoming <br />HOUSE meeting. <br />PROJECT <br />The Director reported that project plans were displayed at the February 8th <br />Skating Party, and many favorable comments were received. <br />VETERANS Sanders reported that he has submitted a grant application to the State <br />MEMORIAL asking for $15,000 in funding for the Veterans Memorial Project. He <br />PROJECT noted that the grant process is a competitive one, and he will keep the <br />Commission informed of the outcome. <br />The Director reported that he met with the Eagle Scout proposing to do a <br />picnic table improvement as part of the Veterans Memorial Project. The <br />Eagle Scout needed the City to sign off on his plans for the project so it <br />could be submitted to the Boy Scouts for approval. The Director <br />anticipated that the project will commence in the Spring. <br />ARBOR DAY The Director reported that he is coordinating an Arbor Day Celebration <br />CELEBRATION for Friday, May 2, 2014 in Spooner Park with Little Canada Elementary <br />School and St. John's School.
